International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

In celebration of this annual day, UQ staff are invited to a beginner-level yoga session at the School of Public Health courtyard on Wednesday 21 June 2023, hosted by UQ Herston-based yoga instructors Reema Naresh, Jo Maxwell and Jo Cherriman.

Yoga is a practice that impacts physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. It also increases physical flexibility and reduces stress. As a regular practice, yoga supports good health and positive mental wellbeing. There are many aspects of yoga, including physical postures, breath work, mindfulness, and meditation. During the celebratory event this year, attendees will be encouraged to experience some these aspects of yoga in the hope that sharing a session helps to inspire adoption of yoga as a self-care practice.
