Emily is a proud Yamatji woman and Research Assistant at the University of Queensland’s First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research Program. Emily graduated from USC with a Bachelor of Social Science, majoring in International Development and Sociology, and is currently completing a PhD under the supervision of Dr Andrew Smirnov and Professor Gail Garvey. 

For the past two years Emily has been working alongside Dr Smirnov on the QSHRF harm reduction project: Enhancing harm reduction services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who inject drugs. She is currently assisting FNCWR team in the development of several systematic reviews on health and cancer. Emily has a strong passion for improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and increasing the prevalence of Indigenous knowledge systems in research.
