Dr Leah Jayes presents: How might the provision of smoking cessation services be adapted to improve uptake and success for people in low socioeconomic groups? A mixed-methods exploratory study.
Presented by visiting Academic, Dr Leah Jayes
Smoking is the largest avoidable cause of death and serious disability in the UK. It exacerbates health inequalities, and the burden is particularly high in low socioeconomic groups, where smoking prevalence has remained high despite an overall decline in the general population. Providing effective support to smoking cessation through stop smoking services (SSS) has been effective in helping smokers to quit; however, due to a range of inequalities linked to the social determinants of health, provision and uptake of such services varies considerably across the UK and between sociodemographic groups. This study aims to explore the provision and uptake of SSS across the UK devolved nations and understand the views of service users and service providers regarding barriers and facilitators to access.
