The main focus of our research is the sexual health of population groups, including young people, LGBTIQ+, people living with HIV and sex workers. We take a human rights based approach to our research and examine sexual health through the lens of the social determinants of sexual health. We have a focus on maintaining strong collaborative research partnerships with community organisations and engage in community participatory research.

We have expertise in innovative research methods including longitudinal qualitive research, life course approaches, service evaluation, write and draw techniques and mixed methods. Our research informs service provision and policy development. We embed our research into teaching.

We receive funding from many sources including, the Australian Research Council, Queensland Health, Viiv Healthcare, Queensland Positive People, Western Australian Department of Health, Western Australia AIDS Council and the Queensland Aids Council. We collaborate with these organisations as well as many university institutions including Monash University, UNSW and the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow.
