Research Chair: Cancer Epidemiology and Population Health, Beat Cancer Project

Senior Principal Research Fellow at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).

David Roder joined the University of South Australia in 2011 as Research Chair: Cancer Epidemiology and Population Health. David is also employed under contract by Cancer Australia, the NSW Cancer Institute, and Cancer Council SA. 

Previously David was the Head of Cancer Control Research at Cancer Council South Australlia and the Director of the Epidemiology Branch of SA Health. He has been a WHO consultant in Mongolia, Malaysia and Indonesia, and has worked under contract to the Malaysian, South Australian and New Zealand Government.

He currently Chair’s the National Cervical Cancer Quality Safety Monitoring Committee, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s Cancer Monitoring Advisory Committee, the New South Wales Population & Health Services Research Ethics Committee, and the CanTeen Youth Cancer Service Data Advisory Panel. He sits on a range of other advisory, data set specification, accreditation and redevelopment committees.

He has authored over 350 peer-reviewed research publications and is active in research both as a researcher and research reviewer for numerous international journals and research funding bodies. 

David Roder’s research interests are broad, but with a focus on cancer, health-services evaluation, safety and quality monitoring, and data-infrastructure development, and with an additional emphasis on data linkage. As Deputy Chair of the SA Government Human Research Ethics Committee & Chair of the NSW Population & Health Services Research Ethics Committee, and member of the Population Health Research Network of Australia’s Privacy Committee and SA Health's Health Performance Council, he is interested in, and is optimising data use through data linkage within legal and ethical constraints.
