Through our research we seek to work closely with community to understand the lived experiences of people who experience marginalisation, stigma and social isolation. We draw on qualitative longitundinal methods to gain a deeper understanding of changes over time, context and location – in essence our research looks to the longer story not the snapshot. Our findings are used by community to seek change and enhance services for those who are frequently overlooked by mainstream care.

Our research in this field is also translated into teaching and learning to ensure students of public health recognise that addressing health inequalities is fundamental to public health practice.
