Researcher Biography

Vicky works for the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research team in the School of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine. Her current role as a Project Manager continues to build on her research management and research impact. In this role she manages an NHMRC A preference-informed model to improve access and equity in bowel screening for Australia’s First Nations people through home care services and provides qualitative research expertise in data collection and analysis for other funded research projects. Prior to this role Vicky was a Senior Research Officer at the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) where she also undertook her PhD.

In 2017 Vicky was awarded a competitive Scholarship from UQ to work on her PhD focused on the low representation of male educators in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) workforce. A mere 3% of the Australian ECEC workforce is male. Her thesis will contribute to solving this significant policy problem through a study of barriers and benefits to male participation in the ECEC workforce. Vicky worked full-time at QUT for 5 years before being invited to move to ISSR at UQ. She had two roles at QUT as a Research Project Coordinator for the Strategic Investment in Farm Robotics (SIFR) program at the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Robotic Vision (ACRV), and as a Research Manager for the Early Education and Development Team at the Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR).

Through her research work with Goodstart Early Learning Services, Vicky has been asked to join an international network of researchers focused on men in the ECEC workforce. This group consists of leading researchers from around the globe who regularly meet and collaborate on projects. Vicky has co-authored book chapters, journal articles, newsletters, presentations, and reports with this network.
