The HIV Hub has developed around the Queensland Chair in HIV and STIs (held by Professor Charles Gilks), and the research work of a group of committed researchers who are pioneering a range of trials and research projects with diverse stakeholders, community groups and other academic institutions.

Qualitative work in HIV that reflects the needs of communities in Queensland and Australia complimented by strong international links and outlooks. We continue to engage, supervise and work with PLWHIV, students and scholars toward understanding the drivers of HIV, the lived experience of the disease and our best approaches to prevention and treatment.

Our recent research has investigated:

  • Qualitative work on the experience and perceptions of LGBTQ+ communities in the state of PrEPD
  • Evaluations of peer navigation services for those recently  diagnosed with HIV.
  • Professor Gilks maintains a strong international focus in his work, with ongoing engagement in international efforts to eliminate HIV and access to second line treatments.
  • HIV and TB programs in Ethiopia and work with the World Health Organization on the development of treatment guidelines
  • Pricing and access to essential medications for HIV and Hepatitis C
